Diversity & Inclusion
No Longer an Option
This month, we are proud to have Ms. Terri Lee Freeman as our guest speaker for the October Diversity Meeting. Ms. Freeman is the President of the National Civil Rights Museum. She was appointed president of the National Civil Rights Museum in November 2014. As president, Ms. Freeman is responsible for providing strategic leadership in furthering the museum’s mission as an educational and cultural institution.
Diversity is no longer an option in our country. Within the next 20 or so years, the United States of America will be a majority minority nation. But diversity and inclusion are two very different things. Will our nation actually allow for meaningful contributions from diverse populations? Will we relegate minority populations to certain industries, communities? Will our public education systems be equipped to deal with the opportunities presented by a multi-cultural student body? What is the role of civic engagement in ensuring that inclusion, not assimilation is a given as we move forward? Increasing diversity, the need for equity, and inclusion of these voices will require that we continue to pursue freedom and justice for all.

Co-hosted by SHRM-Memphis and the Avron Fogelman Professional Development Center.
